Telecommuting becomes the rage due to gas prices
As I mentioned before, I believe that gas prices will help promote telecommuting.

I'd love to be able to telecommute 2-3 days a week.

As I sat in traffic for most of one recent day, soaking up the fumes of SUVs around me, the nostalgia hit like a Donny Osmond record playing on oldies radio.
I don't remember driving around so much as a kid. Most of the time, we were home, in our neighborhood, playing with the neighborhood kids. It was only in those rarified Sundays a couple times a month in the summers that we traveled to the beach. We never went to any mall, or out to dinner unless it was a birthday party at Farrell's or Shakey's.
With the advent of playdates, scheduled, formal activities for the children to not be bored out of their skull, and activities for us adults, came even more use of the car.
I don't like it. I never like being in a car for any reason. But the thought of driving downtown to Seattle fills me with a mild panic.
Is it too late to go provincial?
